You may not know that the Friends of the Villa Montezuma, Inc. (FOVM) worked for several years to negotiate with the City of San Diego (owner of the mansion) and the Centre City Development Corporation (CCDC, the downtown redevelopment agency) to allocate $1,050,000 to fix the foundation and the other needs at this Victorian masterpiece. If not for the FOVM, the Villa would not be getting restored. Platt/Whitelaw Architects is heading up the restoration, and after a year and a half of studies and testing, the first phase of restoration will being in early 2012. Learn more about it at www.VillaMontezumaMuseum.org. The FOVM supported the museum when the San Diego History Center used to operate it. In the future, the FOVM looks forward to being able to open the doors to the public again when restoration is complete. In the mean time, the FOVM conducts walking tours of the Sherman Heights Historic District ("Jesse Shepard's neighborhood") on the first and third Sunday of most months, depending on the weather. You can learn all about the history and architectural heritage of San Diego's largest historic district in this very interesting 2-hour walk. For more info call the FOVM at 619-255-9367 or visit the website.toddesignhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01479186803756616410noreply@blogger.com
